Brighton based Partial Facsimile, a surround-sound and visual-art collective specializing in research based projects and site-specific performance asked me to direct a short film to accompany their MEDIA OS 5.1 tour, an interactive audio-visual live concert in 5.1 surround sound, where the artists perform behind a screen, projecting films specifically developed for the performance that discuss big data and its effects on human behavior. Audience members are also encouraged to interact with the show via a phones using QR codes.
The group wanted me to address infobesity, the overstimulation of digital information, taking a conceptual look at a near future scenario where cybernetics lenses are everyday appliances but the implications of using them are not fully understood. Contrary to its purpose of liberation the user becomes captivated with the device, and the side effects of prolonged use begin to show, encountering artifacts, reboots and a dreamlike state in which the digital and daily life merge, causing confusion as we follow a commuters morning routine through the lens of new digital technology.
